FG, ASUU Meet to Avoid Strike

A crucial meeting between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced in Abuja, aimed at preventing a nationwide strike in public universities.

The meeting follows ASUU’s threat to down tools over the government’s alleged failure to meet its demands. The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, had promised a meeting last Monday, but it was postponed without explanation.

Led by ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the union’s representatives are engaging with the Minister of Education and top officials at the Federal Ministry of Education’s Conference Hall.

Former ASUU presidents, including immediate past president Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, are also part of the delegation, bringing their expertise to the negotiations.

The meeting’s success is vital in averting a strike that could cripple the nation’s public universities. Details of the discussions and outcomes are eagerly awaited.
