Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has initiated an investigation into the death of Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police AbdulWaheed Ayilara, who passed away following surgery at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
The decision follows concerns raised by Ayilara’s family and colleagues regarding the care he received.
The newly formed medical panel will examine the events leading up to Ayilara’s death.
The panel, led by Prof. Adetokunbo Fabanwo, Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, is tasked with delivering a detailed report within a week.
This move comes just days after Ayilara’s death was confirmed by medical professionals at LASUTH in Ikeja.
He was subsequently interred at the Abari Cemetery in Lagos Island.
Prof. Akin Abayomi, Commissioner for Health, expressed grief over Ayilara’s passing.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, on behalf of Lagos State, extended condolences to Ayilara’s family, the police force, and the Akwa Ibom State community, acknowledging his exemplary service and leadership.
