Lagos State Government Orders Investigation into Death of Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police

The Lagos State Government has initiated an investigation into the death of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Abdulwaheed Ayilara, who passed away while undergoing surgery at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

In a statement issued to journalists, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, announced that the panel, led by Prof. Adetokunbo Fabanwo, Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, will review the clinical circumstances leading to Ayilara’s death. A comprehensive report is expected within seven days.

“We share the grief and understand the anxiety this news may have caused. The Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation,” Abayomi said.

The announcement comes just two days after Ayilara, who was pronounced dead at LASUTH, was laid to rest at Abari Cemetery in Lagos Island. Governor Sanwo-Olu extended heartfelt condolences to Ayilara’s family, the police, and the government and people of Akwa Ibom State.

“The demise of Ayilara has left us in deep shock and profound sadness.

His dedication to duty and exemplary leadership earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues and the communities he served.

His death is a significant loss to his family, the police, and the nation,” Sanwo-Olu added.
