Insecurity: FG Orders Defence Minister, Military Chiefs to Relocate to Sokoto

The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered Dr. Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, along with other military leaders, to relocate to Sokoto State as part of a heightened effort to tackle the escalating security challenges in the North-West.

The government said this move is essential in combating the ongoing threats of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism that have plagued the region.

This decision reflects the government’s firm commitment to restoring peace and stability in the affected areas.

Dr. Matawalle, while discussing the plan, noted that their presence in the North-West is intended to supervise military operations and ensure that notorious criminal elements, such as the gang led by Bello Turji, are completely eradicated.

The government also acknowledged the distressing activities of these criminals, including the recent circulation of videos showing a Nigerian military armored vehicle trapped in a waterlogged area in Zamfara State.

The incident, which took place in the Kwashabawa area of Zurmi Local Government, highlighted the persistent challenges faced by the military in their efforts to secure the region.

Dr. Matawalle assured the residents of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi states that the security forces are determined to remove these criminal elements and restore normalcy.

He urged the local population to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security agencies, as the government is resolute in its mission to safeguard lives and property in the North-West.
