New Minimum Wage Approved For Ebonyi Workers

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has confirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers.

During the Grand Finale of the 2024 Izzi Nnodo New Yam Festival at Amagu, he announced that he has instructed the Head of Service to prepare the necessary steps for this wage increase.

Nwifuru spoke on the significance of the Izzi culture, praising the community for their dedication to preserving their rich traditions.

He also highlighted the unique cultural identity of the Izzi people, urging for its continued preservation.

The governor further addressed the issue of delayed government projects, expressing dissatisfaction with contractors who fail to meet deadlines.

He warned that contractors who do not complete their projects within the given 60-day grace period will face consequences, with specific instructions given to the Commissioner for Housing to ensure compliance.

Additionally, Nwifuru condemned the unauthorized sale of land in the ancestral communities of Amagu and Ebiya, urging elders and traditional rulers to intervene and stop this practice.

The event was marked by attendance from notable figures within the Izzi community, who acknowledged the governor’s efforts in executing projects that benefit the people.

They also called for unity and support for the current administration, discouraging nepotism and emphasizing the importance of government accountability.
