    Canadian Police Arrest Woman for Alleged Online Threats Against Nigerians

     

    A woman has been arrested by Canadian police for allegedly making online threats against certain members of the Nigerian community in Canada.

    The incident was reported to the Canadian authorities by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and is being investigated as a potential hate-motivated crime.

    The threats reportedly began around August 25 when the suspect posted threatening content online. Police received a report about the incident on August 28 and promptly launched an investigation.

    On Sunday, September 1, 2024, 46-year-old Amaka Sonnberger was arrested in connection with the alleged threats.

    Sonnberger faces charges of uttering threats, a serious criminal offense in Canada. She is set to appear in a Toronto court today to respond to the charges.

    The Toronto Police Service has stated that the case is being considered a possible hate-motivated offense, and if found guilty, Sonnberger could face severe legal penalties.
