At least 10 maritime travelers are feared to have been kidnapped by sea pirates along the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterway early Monday morning.
Although details remain unclear, Channels Television reports that the victims were traveling between Bonny and Port Harcourt.
Israel Pepple, District Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria for Rivers State, confirmed the incident by phone, stating, “It’s not a rumour, it is real.
Ten persons have been kidnapped this morning while traveling from Bonny to Port Harcourt. We’ve reported this to the security agencies.”
The police public relations officer confirmed awareness of the abduction and said Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu has instructed Deputy Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju and the local DPOs to secure the victims’ safe return as soon as possible.
