NSC Mourns Abba Yola, Eulogizes Him as Sports Administrator Par Excellence

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has described the passing of former Kano Pillars Chairman, Alhaji Abba Yola, as a painful loss to the nation’s sports family.

According to a statement released by the Commission’s Director of Press, Dr (Mrs) Kehinde Ajayi, the Kano-born sports administrator, a retired Assistant Director in the Ministry of Sports, also served as Chief of Staff to former Sports Minister, Hon. Sunday Dare, among other prominent positions he held in Nigeria’s sports industry.

NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, described Alhaji Abba Yola as a personal friend and sports administrator par excellence. “He contributed significantly to Nigerian sports growth during his tenure at the Sports Commission and Ministry of Sports,” Dikko said. “His vast experience in sports administration is well-documented, and he’ll be deeply missed.”

Dikko highlighted their professional interaction when Yola was Kano Pillars Chairman and noted his role in Nigeria’s 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification as a member of the Presidential Task Force.

NSC Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, eulogized Yola as one of Nigeria’s finest sports administrators. “His contributions paved the way for the Commission’s current successes,” Olopade said. “He played a key role in the Adopt-The-Athletes initiative as Chief of Staff to former Minister Sunday Dare.”

Olopade concluded, “Alhaji Abba Yola will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to his family and the people of Kano State.”
