BREAKING: APC National Chairman, Ganduje Resigns, Gives Reason

In a surprising development, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with immediate effect.

Ganduje, who served as Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023 before assuming the party’s top leadership role in August 2023, attributed his resignation to health concerns, stating the need to prioritize his personal well-being.

Ganduje’s time as APC National Chairman was marred by internal crises, legal battles, and mounting allegations. His emergence in 2023 came at a time of intense infighting within the ruling party, and he struggled to unify its ranks throughout his tenure.

In April 2024, a Kano State High Court issued an ex parte order restraining him from parading himself as a member of the party following a lawsuit filed by some aggrieved party executives. Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja later dismissed a suit filed by the APC North Central Forum seeking his removal.

Although Ganduje’s resignation letter cites health reasons, sources within the party suggest his exit may have been influenced by growing political pressure and dissatisfaction among stakeholders.

Reports have emerged linking his office to allegations of financial impropriety. In particular, some party members accused his leadership of imposing excessive financial demands—especially on aspirants seeking APC tickets. Notably, some Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council aspirants protested against the exorbitant fees required to secure party nominations.

Ganduje’s abrupt resignation marks a significant turning point in the APC’s national leadership. The party has yet to issue an official statement, leaving members and observers speculating over the implications of this leadership vacuum and what it could mean ahead of future political realignments.

As the party navigates this leadership transition, attention is now focused on who might emerge to steer the APC through its current challenges.
