Kogi Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Killing 11-Year-Old Son

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Jato Alhaji Jaye, for allegedly killing his 11-year-old son in Agbaja, Oworo land, Lokoja Local Government Area.

According to police sources, the case was reported on August 19 by one Zuberu Adamu of Fulani bush camp, Agbaja village. He disclosed that his sister, Adama Adamu, had raised concern over the disappearance of her son, Buhari Jato, who left home on August 17 to graze cattle with his father but never returned.

A search party was immediately launched, leading to the discovery of the boy’s lifeless body in the bush. The suspect was reportedly caught at the scene attempting to bury the body in an effort to cover up the crime.

Operatives from Division ‘B’, Lokoja, were deployed to the location. Photographs of the scene were taken, the suspect apprehended, and the decomposing body of the victim was released to the family for burial in line with Islamic rites.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the killing, claiming that the deceased had “offended him” while they were rearing animals together. He admitted to flogging the boy with a Fulani stick, which led to his death.

Police authorities confirmed that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
