FG Suspends Abuja-Kaduna Train Services After Accident
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna corridor following a derailment incident on Sunday.
Managing Director of the NRC, Kayode Opeifa, announced the suspension at a press briefing in Abuja. He explained that services will not resume until investigations are completed and safety is fully guaranteed.
Opeifa disclosed that technical teams from the NRC, the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and other relevant agencies were already on site to ascertain the cause of the derailment and recommend preventive measures.
He dismissed claims of poor maintenance, insisting that the corporation consistently adheres to strict safety standards. According to him, refunds have been processed for all affected passengers.
The NRC boss further revealed that six passengers sustained minor injuries during the incident and have since received medical care. He added that the exact number of passengers on board at the time was still being verified.
Meanwhile, the NSIB has formally launched an investigation into the incident as authorities intensify efforts to restore safe and efficient services on the route.
