Kyari Condemns Killing of 15 Farmers in Borno, Calls it Attack on Food Security
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has condemned the killing of 15 farmers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State by suspected terrorists, describing it as an attack on Nigeria’s food security.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 4, 2026, Kyari stated that he was “deeply saddened and outraged” by the incident, noting that the victims were innocent Nigerians working on their farms to earn a living and contribute to national food production.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Marte, His Excellency the Executive Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Government and people of Borno State. I pray that Almighty Allah grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort their families,” the Minister said.
He described the killing of farmers as not only an attack on innocent lives and livelihoods but also on the collective efforts to achieve food security under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Kyari stated further that the Ministry remains committed to creating an environment where farmers can cultivate their lands safely and productively.
He commended security agencies for their efforts to protect farming communities and urged them to intensify operations to bring the perpetrators to justice and locate three persons reportedly still missing.
“Protecting our farmers is protecting Nigeria’s food security. May Almighty Allah continue to protect our farmers, rural communities and our nation,” Kyari added.
The attack in Marte, one of the Lake Chad fringes prone to insurgent activity, comes amid renewed farming activities in parts of Borno as the state government pushes for resettlement and agricultural revival.
