Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, has officially become the Democratic Party’s candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
Harris clinched the nomination on Friday after receiving the majority of delegates’ votes during a virtual roll call.
In her statement following the announcement, Harris expressed her honor at being chosen as the Democratic nominee and mentioned she would formally accept the nomination the following week.
She highlighted the campaign’s focus on unity and a shared love for the country, aiming to bring out the best in Americans.
Although the online voting process continues until Monday, Harris has already surpassed the required threshold to secure the nomination.
This development follows President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race on July 21, 2024, and his subsequent endorsement of Harris.
Democratic National Committee Chair Jamie Harrison confirmed Harris’s nomination during a call with supporters, marking a significant milestone in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
