The Paris Olympics faced a bomb scare today as police discovered a suspicious object near an Olympic venue.
This led to the lockdown of the Stade de France and the closure of the nearby Porte de Paris train station.
A specialist bomb squad has been dispatched to the Stade de France, where the area has been cordoned off for safety.
Reports indicate that the stadium was empty when the alert was raised this afternoon.
The first Olympic session had ended at 1pm, and the next event, expected to draw over 80,000 spectators, was scheduled for around 6pm.
The Paris Olympics began last Saturday, with numerous events held at France’s national arena in northern Paris.
This year’s games have seen unprecedented security measures, deemed the largest in Olympic history.
