- The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has taken decisive action against two Chinese-owned companies, shutting them down due to their non-compliance with environmental standards.
The companies, Yibao Industrial Limited and Ronchang Industrial Park, located along the Sagamu–Abeokuta and Lagos–Ibadan Expressways respectively, were found to be operating in unhygienic conditions and engaging in improper waste disposal practices.
According to OGWAMA, the companies ignored repeated warnings and continued to use unapproved waste collectors, which is a violation of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority Law of 2020.
This practice led to the illegal dumping of waste along major highways, contributing to environmental degradation and posing health risks to nearby communities.
The management of OGWAMA said that the closure of these companies is a necessary measure to enforce proper waste management and protect public health.
The authority also issued a stern warning to other companies in the state, urging them to adhere to waste management laws or face similar consequences.
OGWAMA called on local community groups and NGOs to support their efforts by reporting companies that fail to comply with environmental regulations, thereby helping to improve the quality of life in Ogun State.
