    Yobe State closes three markets over insecurity

     

    The Yobe State Government has ordered the immediate closure of three weekly markets in Katarko, Kukareta, and Buni Yadi as part of efforts aimed at curtailing the activities of bandits within the local areas

    In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), the action was to enable the government, in collaboration with security agencies, take proactive engagements and consolidate the successes recorded in the ongoing counter-insurgency operation in the state.

    The statement noted that the temporary measure, is for the safety of lives and property of people in the affected environment.

    “Although this decision may come with its attendant consequences, it has, however, become necessary in our collective interest and for the success of the operation,” the statement added.

    The Special Adviser assured that efforts are ongoing to hasten the operation so as to minimize the pains of the temporary closure of the markets on the well-being of the citizens.

    The statement further urged the people in the area to suppport government efforts by providing useful information about criminals in order to save lives, property, and critical national assets and infrastructure.
