The Kano State Government has initiated a new fraud case against former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, now APC National Chairman, along with his former Local Government Commissioner Murtala Sule Garo and two other individuals.
The new charge, detailed in charge sheet No.K/148c/24, includes allegations of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, false statements, and misappropriation of funds.
The accused are alleged to have misappropriated N57.4 billion, which was intended for local government allocations.
The funds were reportedly diverted through various accounts, including those of Local Government Cashiers, and were allegedly converted into cash in US Dollars and Nigerian Naira.
The accused are said to have used these funds to purchase high-value properties, including a hotel in Abuja, commercial and residential properties in Dubai, and multiple filling stations in Kano.
The prosecution plans to present evidence showing that from 2020 to 2023, the accused abused their positions for personal gain, causing significant loss to the state. A total of 143 witnesses are expected to testify when the trial begins.
